This commercial and office building is located near the Treviso Nord motorway exit, along Viale della Repubblica, one of the most important bypasses of Treviso; this bypass that lies to the West of the city centre, acts as connection for traffic coming from the eastern-western axis. The main purpose of the project was to design a building with a strong personality, capable of standing out with respect to the existing, surrounding buildings that are rather nondescript.
Once again, the surrounding environment is particularly important and an essential part of the project. Furthermore: the more troublesome the area, the more challenging the project and outstanding the result. In the area of Viale della Repubblica, Treviso, ground is divided by a communal canal and, along one side, a new road will be built. These constraints, along with the need to use as much space as was possible, were basic elements of the project. The building takes its inspiration from basic shapes, such as squares, circles and triangles, arranged along a longitudinal axis; it has two overground floors and a terrace, located on a flat roof, which offers a splendid view of the hills and mountains of Veneto on one side and on the City’s racecourse on the other. The addition of other axes, originating from the main one, creates dynamic shapes within the main volume. The building is divided into two main sections, connected by a white steel structure with a peculiar leaf-shaped structure that covers the canal. The side facing Viale della Repubblica consists of full and hollow areas and is characterised, on one side, by the strength of the corner structure with the shape of a triangular prism and, on the other, by the lightness of the large windows.
As far as the structure is concerned, the building consists of reinforced concrete seismically safe sections with a double wall made of Strirudur lined with 6 cm thick sheets of plaster board, leaving a 3 cm gap between to improve insulation and allow for easy installation of cables and equipment. The building’s roof consists of iron lattice girders with REP type reinforced concrete bottom girders and laminated honeycomb panels. The entire structure fulfils REI 120-180 requirements. The choice of materials and colours is based on the search for elegance and aims at attaining a harmonious balance between the former. The result is an alternate pattern of glass, Travertine and coloured laminate. The larger exterior walls that surround the building are tiled with Kerlite Noisette 40x100x0.3 cm, installed using Ultraflex S2 adhesive made by Mapei applied with the double-bed technique. Kerlite material has been chosen for three essential reasons: this material is particularly light and reduces the risk of the slabs detaching; the material is offered in extremely large sizes to increase the impressiveness of the large surfaces; the aesthetic quality of the surface finish of Kerlite Buxy, inspired by the stone of Burgundy with the same name, is particularly high; the Noisette colour is warm, bold but not dull.
